Rocket Frog Divers Costa Rica

Rocket Frog Divers is located at Playa Ocotal in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. Only a few minute drive from the much busier and better known Playas del Coco, Ocotal offers our scuba diving customers a much more relaxed atmosphere to begin and end their dives. Rocket Frog is proud to offer their customers service to all three major diving locations in the region, the Catalinas, the Bat Islands, and local diving in the Gulf de Papagayo.

Rocket Frogs Boats

Rocket Frog is proud to serve their customers with far and away the best dive boat in the area “The Pacific Express.” With twin 300 HP Yamaha engines, this ribbed inflatable boat can get you to and from dive locations in under half the time of other shops in the area. This means we can make the trip to Bat Islands in just under 1 hour. Other operators crossings can take 2-2.5 hours. The Pacific Express is equipped with first aid equipment, emergency oxygen, as well as advanced navigation and communication equipment which make it one of the safest vessels in the area as well.

Rocket Frog also has a smaller vessel which is the same style of dive boat (ribbed inflatable) called the Tiburon. It is a smaller boat which is quite often used for local diving in the Gulf de Papagayo if the Pacific Express is doing a trip to one of the other destinations.

The Staff of Rocket Frog

Rocket Frog Divers have a fantastic group of staff that care about your diving experience. Rocket Frog Divers is co-owned by Michael Kucharski, a retired US Army Veteran, and Nere Aguero, a local “tico” (Costa Rican) who has studied in marine biology. The two make up for an extremely vibrant team who are very involved with the day to day operations of the dive shop. The captain of the ship is Pin (pronouced ping) who is also a local Costa Rican who was originally a divemaster, but has been a captain in these waters for over a decade now.

Dive Conditions in Costa Rica

The dive conditions in this area of Costa Rica are very variable. They can change from tide to tide. The temperature in the morning can easily be 10 degrees farenheit different from a dive that same afternoon. The visibility can change just as quickly as well. While the visibility is not as great as many people are used to diving in the Caribbean, the sheer amount of marine life you encounter will surly make up for it. Schools of fish are huge and every where.
